From his early days learning calf roping with a simple Western Horseman book to becoming a respected figure in the rodeo community, Alan’s journey is nothing short of legendary. In this episode, Alan recounts his rigorous training regimen of roping 100 calves per day, purchasing his renowned horse, Lester, in 1973, and qualifying for the International Finals Rodeo that same year. He shares insights into his disciplined practice routines, his strategic approach to managing rodeo as a business, and his influential role as a judge. As he gears up to judge 49 rodeos in 2024, Alan also discusses how he supports his three granddaughters in softball and rodeo, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and skill.
