From Swimmer to Rodeo Star: Fred’s Ride to the Top with Cross the Line Rodeo – Interview with Michelle and Louis Backlas

Feb 20, 2024

Fred’s journey begins in Buffalo, NY, where he transitions from a swimmer and pizza enthusiast to training and showcasing horses. He embarks on his rodeo path by learning bareback bronc riding at Phillip’s Arena and, at 17, decides to pursue rodeo full-time. Fred’s rodeo career spans competing in the PRCA, APRA, and IPRA, leading to qualifications for prestigious events like the Dodge Circuit Finals Rodeo and the North American Rodeo Commission’s Finals. The conversation rounds off with the founding story of the Backlas Family’s Cross the Line Rodeo Company.
